Challenges Faced by Crestwood Industries
Crestwood Industries was tasked with a critical challenge when contracted by Ohio Medical Company. The assignment involved the production and safe transportation of body fluid canisters and lids, requiring a total of 96 pieces per shipment. The primary goal was to ensure zero breakage of these components during their transit to hospital facilities, a task demanding high standards of packaging innovation and reliability.
Rigali's Solution for Crestwood Industries
Rigali Packaging Products, Inc. (RPPI) was approached to develop a packaging solution that met stringent criteria. The requirements included not only protection and cost-effectiveness but also ease of packing and unpacking. Rigali's engineering team engaged in an iterative process, creating five different prototypes. The final design featured a double-wall outer shipper and four individual sleeves, each capable of holding twelve canisters. Additionally, four recycled plastic bags were used for protecting the lids, and two foam pads were placed at the top and bottom of the shipper for extra security. Throughout the development process, Rigali provided prototypes, conducted ISTA 3A testing to ensure compliance with shipping standards, and held frequent consultations with both Crestwood Industries and Ohio Medical personnel—all at no additional cost to the client.
